Today went pretty well….we started with finishing the upper beams as far as we could go without the rest of the posts–and then put in the pre assembled compression boards into the main girders. Compression boards function similarly to the keystone in a Roman arch–and will help in keeping the the structure from racking in high winds or any lateral pressure such as seismic. It was pretty exciting with the guys up top and me lifting up the assemblies to them with the forklift boom.
Matthew got a lot more diagonal framing done–including some of the internal sheer walls and further function to stabilize it–as big open shell with no floor system in the 40×90 main venue–the ends have to be rock solid. Also quite exciting was the beginning of the backfilling of the rest of the foundation–which means we will be able to tackle the rest of the building by mid next week.
I took some pictures with the floodlights on–starting to look very architectural….and large…
