We had a hot and magnificent day today–and are totally spent from the exhaustion, stress, joy and fulfillment of the day….the roofing was almost too hot to touch baking in the sun–but was small price to pay to do what we all knew we had to do.
I owe a special thank you to David Hamilton–who at 11:00 pm last night found a fifth man to help us for today’s marathon–named Chris. Five of us were indispensable for roofing–with three of us up top and two below passing up the panels. It was so hot the batteries and drivers for the screw guns all smoked and were at times too hot to hold in our hands…and the batteries got so hot they would not charge when they ran out of juice. Fortunately–we had quite a few extras so we got through it with minimal delays.
I am going home tomorrow for several days to catch up on the rest of my life and especially to be with my beloved–who supports me so fully in the work that I love and without whom I would feel homeless away from home. The crew will be putting on the front shed porch in my absence…I will be back on Wednesday night.
