DAY SIX:UPPER BEAM MILESTONE COMPLET

bcpd-day-61We had a wonderful day today working on The Baldwin Center…finishing the first milestone of the upper beam early this evening. The toughest part of the day was hauling the 6x8x24′ doug fir beams up to the second floor….a bit heavy but after years of heavy lifting we have devised some good ways to facilitate the difficult–while the impossible takes just a bit longer
O:-) .

The weather cooperated for the most part–raining lightly until mid day and clearing a bit after lunch before resuming rain as we packed it up for the day. The beams begin to give the structure its sense of shape–defining its size at the upper level before it tapers up to the roof. The upper plates are routered to shed water and look more articulated along the 48′ eave…and tomorrow we will begin to cut rafters for the roof system which we hope to get up on Friday/Saturday….

We were blessed to be visited by Casey Williams today….she is a dear friend and it was great to see her after a long hiatus….and we look forward to seeing her and everyone from the Bundoran Farm team as often as possible.
