DAY SEVEN: Preparing the Roof System

bcpd-day-7Today was a mixed day….with the preparing hundreds of boards to erect the roof system (all day tomorrow) that went very well…and on the not so well side I blew out a tire in my car on a sharp rock in the driveway which ultimately led to needing to get towed in that even the electric impact wrench we use to bolt the buildings would not remove the lug nuts…and it just got worse from there…So–at about 10:00, with the guys working hard staging tons of materials upstairs and with me having accomplished absolutely nothing–I finally worked with Matt on designing the relatively complicated rafter pattern and while one team cut them we started cutting the 144 blocks that we will need in triplicate to adhere the 50 rafters to the upper beam and install the soffit vent. Jon also stacked a hundred purlins and temporary collar ties until we can put on the doug fir 4x12x20 footers after the fact–all to be exposed beneath the cathedral ceiling 16′George Abetti – Geobarns

Above the upper floor…it will be gorgeous… O:-)

Aside from having to buy a whole new set of tires–my remaining three being rare and too worn to match with a new one–it was a really great day–in preparation for the big roof system push tomorrow. Stay tuned….
