Today we finished to roof system–which included installing all the purlins, the rake boards, and then—after lunch–the 4×12x20 doug fir beams for the collar ties…They were unbelievably heavy and over the stairwell we had to hoist them up the the rafter position with a large winch strap–so it could be nailed, clamped and bolted into position. The guys were fabulous–we exhausted ourselves just carrying them form the far end of the site and getting them up to the upper floor–let alone from the floor into the rafters….
We also had a couple of thunderstorms with soaking rain in the middle of this–but wanted to get done too badly to get out of the downpour–so we just got wet and kept on keeping on. The upstairs is magnificent with the exposed timber….will be a wondrous place to meet as well as it is to build.
We are grateful for a good day.
