Last Saturday, I attended a Green Homebuilding Tour in Crozet, VA, approximately 12 miles from Bundoran Farm. This is the first in a series of four construction tours showcasing green homebuilding techniques being employed in this forested mountain site. The tour highlighted the septic and foundation drainage system design, Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) construction that provides double the insulation value of fiberglass, and the latest in radon prevention methods.
Homeowners, Brian and Joan Day, and Terry Herndon, the owner of Upstream Construction, presented and answered questions about the project. The home is being built to attain three green building certifications: LEED for Homes - Gold certification, EarthCraft certification and EnergyStar certification. More information about the project and future workshops is available online at www.Upstream-Construction.com. Hope to see you there!
