Bundoran Farm and Baldwin Center Hosts Future Design and Construction Professionals

catec-visit-to-bundoran-farm-1.JPGThe Baldwin Center for Preservation Development recently hosted two groups of high school students with budding interests in architecture, engineering and other construction-related fields.    Every summer, Charlottesville Albemarle Technical Education Center (”CATEC”) offers an Architecture & Construction Camp to expose students to careers in the Architecture and Construction fields.  The program incorporates guest speakers, site visits and hands-on activities.  This year, CATEC is placing an emphasis on “green” building and sustainable design, and wants to expose them to the related fields of Landscape Architecture and Real Estate Development.   The camp dedicated a full day to exploring the planning, design and construction activity at Bundoran Farm.  On June 24th and July 1st, a group of approximately 12 high school students got an overview of the project, a presentation of one property owner’s house design and construction plans, and an in-depth tour of the house construction underway.  Brian Jones, Project Manager for The Maple Ridge Group, enlightened the students on the challenges, opportunities and rewards of managing a residential development project.
