The Board of the Albemarle County Fair honored several individuals for their contributions to the agricultural industry in Albemarle County. Of particular note are two individuals who have longtime associations with Bundoran Farm. Henry Chiles, the owner of Crown Orchard Company, was recognized for his contribution to the produce industry in the region. Crown Orchard operates several orchards in Central Virginia, including the 200 acres of apple orchards on land they lease at Bundoran Farm. Fred Scott, the former owner of the land on which Bundoran Farm is being developed, was recognized for his support of environmentally conscious development and land preservation. Fred Scott is also the founder of the Ballyshannon Fund which supports educational endeavors designed to encourage greater understanding of rural living, the ethos of commercial farming and timbering, and the responsible use of natural resources, including hunting and fishing. www.ballyshannonfund.com.
