Over the past few days we have been sharing with all the timely and inspirational updates from George Abetti of Geobarns as he and his dedicated team move forward on the construction of The Baldwin Center for Preservation Development at Bundoran Farm. I thought might be interesting to share, from George himself, a little bit [...]

We had a hot and magnificent day today–and are totally spent from the exhaustion, stress, joy and fulfillment of the day….the roofing was almost too hot to touch baking in the sun–but was small price to pay to do what we all knew we had to do.
I owe a special thank you to David Hamilton–who [...]

With all respect and sincere apologies–the building will never be more beautiful than it is right now–with the diagonal framing geometric patterns ablaze in the sunlight and shadows.
The building is now stabilized and we can put the roof on with no fear of wind racking the building. I must say this is the part I [...]

We had a truly wonderful today today at the Baldwin Center–putting up all the upper collar ties where the cupola header runs across half the roof system, and then completing almost all the diagonal framing on the upper level. The guys were so fast they made me run like crazy trying to keep up cutting [...]

Today we finished to roof system–which included installing all the purlins, the rake boards, and then—after lunch–the 4×12×20 doug fir beams for the collar ties…
They were unbelievably heavy and over the stairwell we had to hoist them up the the rafter position with a large winch strap–so it could be nailed, clamped and bolted into [...]

Near Lake Scogo you will find numerous waterfowl, including geese and wood ducks. Red Winged Blackbirds enjoy the reeds and grassy habitat in the emerging wetlands. Raptors, such as this Red Tail Hawk find [...]

Well–The Baldwin Center for Preservation Development at Bundoran Farm is now about 50% bigger….the rafters went on beautifully–since the guys who cut them really did it right! They seemed to get heavier and heavier by then end of the day–but we were glad to get them all up along with some purlins to stabilize the [...]

Today was a mixed day….with the preparing hundreds of boards to erect the roof system (all day tomorrow) that went very well…and on the not so well side I blew out a tire in my car on a sharp rock in the driveway which ultimately led to needing to get towed in that even the [...]

We had a wonderful day today working on The Baldwin Center…finishing the first milestone of the upper beam early this evening. The toughest part of the day was hauling the 6×8×24′ doug fir beams up to the second floor….a bit heavy but after years of heavy lifting we have devised some good ways to facilitate [...]

We finished the floor today except for the last few feet in that we ran out of material which is on its way from Vermont this Friday….the first truck was overloaded and they mistakenly pulled off a small unit for flooring with the roofing and siding…sigh…oh well…at least it makes for a good story.
The guys [...]
